TEST
When designing a suction cup for automotive roof racks, the choice of rubber material is critical. It determines not just the holding force, but the safety of the entire rig in extreme weather.
1. NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)
NBR is the industry standard for industrial oil resistance. However, standard NBR degrades under UV light.
- Pros: Excellent abrasion resistance, high tensile strength.
- Cons: Poor UV resistance (cracks over time).
2. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
For outdoor applications like Ski Racks, EPDM is superior.
“At Super Hobby, we use a custom EPDM blend that remains flexible down to -30°C.”
Conclusion
If you are building an indoor industrial robot, NBR is fine. For outdoor vehicle mounting, you must use UV-stabilized EPDM or Silicone.
